I Like to Test

Even though I like Blogger a lot, I like to fiddle with other blog systems. Since I have a lot of space with my mom’s hosting plan, my mom gave me permission to use her server space for my own needs.

So far, I’ve tried WordPress, Blosxom, and Xanga. WordPress was easy to use, and I really liked it, but I wanted to test more. Blosxom was a bit too simple for me. Xanga was just too crappy for me to use (also, there was a harassment incident).

I had tried to install Movable Type, but the installation instructions were just too complicated (or at least they looked so). Yesterday, I went to the library and got myself a few books. One of them was Sams Teach Yourself Movable Type in 24 Hours. It’s pretty simple to read. It makes the instructions look a lot easier. After about 15 minutes, I had Movable Type up and running. I decided to set up a blog called, Shahid is Testing, since I am always testing new blogging systems.

  • I just tested your MT. Not bad.

I see you are screening comments – good. I screen comments at the two WP blogs I have and that helps but I have to tweak the settings again because my inbox gets active with ‘spamminator killed this comment’ type comments. These are almost as irritating as real spam.

It will be interesting to see what you do with it.

  • I’m actually changing the URL of the MT blog, since I had thought up a funny one to use for myself. I don’t get emails when comments are added. I just see that new comments were added when I log in.

  • This post has been removed by the author.

  • I was with Movable Type for about a year. Great program, hard to install. I miss all the neat plug-ins that came with it.

WordPress was great. I just don’t like PHP too much. It’s the real deal.

  • Actually, the hardest part of installing MT was waiting for teh files to upload to the server. Other than that, it’s pretty cool. Still haven’t worked on installing plug-ins, though.

  • WP is great. You get plugins and sweet loving goodness.
