Though I’m almost 16 now, I still like playing Pokémon. It’s been around 8 years since I got my first Pokémon game. I remember that, back then, you needed to use a game link cable to play with your friends.
I got Pokémon Pearl when it came out last Sunday. I’d have to say the best part of the game is that you can battle with friends over the internet. Not only that, but you can do voice chat with them. It might not seem like a big advancement to the newer, younger players, but it’s a cool feature for veterans like me. The game’s come a long way in ten years, that’s for sure.
I’d be happy to share my friend code with anyone who wants to play. Make sure you leave your email address when you comment.
On the way back from Barnes and Noble with Sudman today, I happened to come across someone I’d known when I was younger. She walked out of the subway car in front of ours with who were probably her mother and younger sister. I ran up the stairs and out of the station.
Then I realized that I probably should’ve at least said hi to her. Somehow Sudman knew who I was talking about. Turns out, she recognized me as well and was looking at me.
I was quite late for something, mind you. Else I would’ve tried to make time.
My school’s leadership team recently set up a team to walk for WalkAmerica. I’ve always wanted to do a charity walk so I decided to sign up. We’re walking to raise money for the March of Dimes. In case you don’t know what the March of Dimes is, they do research to prevent premature birth. Premature birth is the number one cause of newborn death in America and it can cause many disabilities.
If you’d like to donate money, you can donate at http://walkamerica.org/cafenut I’m hoping to reach my goal of $100 by the day of the walk.

I saw The Namesake yesterday and I enjoyed it. One of the reasons I liked it was that I could relate to a lot of what happened in the movie. Many of the things that Gogol goes through are things that all South Asians go through when growing up in America. Kal Penn did a great job portraying the main character. It was much more of a serious role than what he’s done before.
One of the only things I didn’t like about the movie was that the guy was going out with a white girl. I’d say that’s one of the biggest stereotypes about Asian guys that grow up in America. Many people automatically assume that if you’re brown and you live in America, you will, at one point, have a relationship with a white girl. I’m glad they didn’t make the Bengali girl seem like the perfect match for the guy.
The movie also showed the struggle immigrant parents go through in America. It made me see how it was for my parents when they first moved here. I, too, moved out of an old apartment and into a house when I was around the same age as Gogol in the movie.
The Namesake is definitely not one of those crappy Bollywood movies. It has a lot of meaning to it and is very enjoyable.
