Blogging

I miss blogging. It used to be my escape when I had no one to go to. This was back in the day when Blogger had just become a part of Google. I would blog several times a day. That was pretty fun.

I used to try and promote myself as much as I could. I left the blog open on a few Macs at the Apple Store in SoHo. (Back when it was just “the Apple Store.”) I even printed myself some business cards on my printer. I didn’t care who read, I just wanted readers.

These days, I rarely blog. Hell, I don’t even tweet as much as I used to. Not sure what happened. Maybe it’s because my laptop is so slow that I don’t like doing anything on it. My iPhone isn’t very comfortable to write long pieces on. I’m typing this out on my iPhone, though.

Also, I don’t know what to write about anymore. Back in 7th grade, I would write about everything. I’m slightly hesitant now about publishing every detail of my life online. Possibly a side effect of Facebook.

Maybe I’ll blog more. I used to redesign or at least tweak my blog every once in a while. Not sure what happened to that. I guess I should get back into it. God knows if I remember much HTML or CSS anymore.

With that, I’ll finish off by stating that I should really be studying for finals. Guess I’ll head to bed so I can wake up and study in the morning/afternoon.

Nice Comment

I was going through my comments and decided to take a look at my spam. This one was too good to pass up. I ended up approving it and just getting rid of the spammer’s address.

LOL is that what you young people would say in this cases? Hello there, i’m a 84 years old grandfather and I’ve just found this website in my browser history. My nephew used my laptop the last time he went here, I believe… he says LOL pretty often but I’ve started to undertand what it means only recently but he’s a good boy after all. Keep doing your best guys, Internet is a real blessing and you have no idea how lucky you are. Best wishes by a old man commenting for the first time

Great, no?

Things

I remember a time when I’d write blog posts several times a day. Not sure what happened over the years.

During my junior year of high school, I got a little busy and let the blog sit around. If I remember correctly, I might’ve also been trying to figure out how much of my life I make public.

Twitter’s played a big part in my lack of interest in blogging here at Cafenut. I’ll have been @shahid for 4 years next week. Twitter made it easier for me to get my point across quick. I’ve seen Twitter evolve over the years. I joined way back when it was just twttr. According to this article on TechCrunch, I joined on day two. Didn’t know that. I like the comments on that article. Who would’ve thought it would get so huge? Not me.

Well, things have changed since the time I would blog regularly. Not sure what I plan on doing with Cafenut. I guess I’ll just write when I feel like it.

WordPress 3.0 looks shiny but familiar. I need a refresher.

My Last Name Isn’t Kapoor

Sometime during the 8th grade, which was around 2005, my blog kept getting hits from people searching for Shahid Kapoor. From what I could tell, there was some cellphone video of the guy kissing Kareena Kapoor. The guy’s really big in the Bollywood movie industry. That was the first time I was confused for Shahid Kapoor.

Over the last couple of years, Twitter’s gotten huge and many celebrities are using it. At some point in time, people started tweeting to @shahid, my username, confusing me for Kapoor. Then, Kapoor joined Twitter (@shahidkapoor) and I’ve been bombarded with even more tweets intended for him. Some people leave a space in his name, typing it as “@shahid kapoor” while others omit his last name entirely.

Of course, my account was private for a long time. I recently made it public for a research paper and to try and communicate with Kapoor. This hasn’t worked yet.

Normally, I would have no problem receiving his tweets. The thing is, these are his fans trying to reach out to him and their messages are coming my way instead. Also, I have to decipher between replies sent to @shahidkapoor and those sent to me, @shahid.

I’m not exactly sure what to do.

Welcome, 2010

Quite honestly, I don’t remember when I stopped blogging. Well, stopped writing for Cafenut. I think at some point, I began to post things over at cafenut.tumblr.com instead of this site. Possibly because I had a feeling I wouldn’t be able to afford a renewal at the time. Last night, I decided to pull things together and resurrect the website.

After paying a few fees and working out some issues with Dreamhost, I was able to get the site up and running. I was afraid I might’ve given up on Cafenut and deleted the entire site. Fortunately, I had three backups saved on my laptop.

I was a little reluctant to keep up my old posts because I might’ve had things that would embarrass me now. But honestly, I could care less. Those old posts help me see what’s changed about myself and what’s still the same.

I’m not sure how frequently I’ll be writing here because I’m usually tweeting these days. Twitter has changed the way I blog. I think my early posts from Blogger (circa 2004-2005) are similar to what I’m usually posting on Twitter now. I’m still considering whether or not I should make my Twitter feed public again.

Anyway, this blog needs an overhaul. I think I’ll be working on improving my writing. I don’t have the time to focus on the layout of the site or anything. We’ll see where things go.
