Me Acting?

Being a first generation American, I often was embarassed by my Bengali background as a kid. I mean, I used to hate talking to Bengali kids in Bengali. I also hated having to do stuff like going to cultural parties and whatnot. I’m starting to accept being Bengali and I’m starting to see how cool it is to be a first gen.

If there’s one thing I still hate about Bengali culture, it’s the horrible movies that are made in Bangladesh. They’re just filled with crap and mostly people of the, as much as I hate to say this kinda stuff, lower class watch that stuff. However, there are many excellent Bengali short films and mini-series that are pretty fun to watch.

While sitting in a local Bengali restaurant, a guy came and gave out some cards advertising an audition. Some company is looking to make a Bengali-American movie and they’re looking for people. Since I can speak fluent Bengali [1], I’m gonna try out for the audition. I’m pretty sure they won’t be making it as crappy as the ones in Bangladesh.

[1] Ever since I could talk, my parents spoke only Bengali to me since they knew I’d learn English in school. To this day, I speak Bengali with my parents and family.

Temporary Hiatus

I’ve decided to take a bit from blogging. This is partially like Lou and partially like Justin. Don’t worry guys, I’ll still be around on the internet. And, no, I’m not really having a breakdown. I’m just too busy with more personal things to work on this blog for now. Who knows? I might come back tomorrow.

Regrets

Have you ever planned to do something, but then something went wrong and you had too much of your old perfectionist self left in you to try and improvise? How about not doing something you know will bring some happiness to your life? Well, that’s some of the stuff that can happen if you’re in a rush to get to school.

I know that there are many things I could do to get rid of old grudges. Darn me. I need more confidence when it comes to some things.

Relatively Unrelated Things

I’ve found out a few things in the past few days. As the title suggests, they are relatively unrelated.

  • My LC-A should ship by Monday, if not, I won’t even bother complain since I want the camera too badly. I’ve been wanting to get a “lomography” camera since more than a year ago.
  • I found my Game Boy Color.
  • I am hooked on playing Donkey Kong Land on my Game Boy Color. The color looks horrible on the Game Boy Advance.
  • You should never blow into your game paks. This might be what you were taught to do to your non-working games as a kid, but this just makes it worse since the metal connectors get corroded from the water vapor in your breath. Just take a cotton swab and swipe it a few times along the connectors in the game pak.

Well, I guess some of those were related to each other. It’s just that I rarely plan out my posts.

Retro Goodies

The holidays are close by and I’m thinking about what I want. There’s Eid, which is next week, Hanukkah and Christmas, both of which are on December 25. There’s also Kwanzaa and Diwali (I think).

This year, I’ve decided to make my wishlist a bit retro.

I’m planning on getting myself a Lomo LC-A, if I can save up enough money. It’s a really nice vintage Russian camera from like 1982 that’s been discontinued.

I also want a game for my olde NES. Preferably the Super Mario Bros., Duck Hunt, and World Class Track Meet 3-in-1, since that’s what I should’ve gotten with my Nintendo.

Today, I saw that the Adventures of Pete & Pete was on DVD. The second season is coming to DVD next week. I remember seeing a few episodes as a little kid. The one I can best recall was one where little Pete tried to save time for Daylight Savings or something like that.

The last thing I want is Super Skeet. It’s this old game they used to have ads for. I was so little, I didn’t know what it was called. Just knew it was cool and you shot at ducks that were on your wall.
