Shooting Strangers

My Photo I professor assigned us to shoot photos of strangers: one roll with permission and one without. I like photographing people but I’m horrible with strangers so this seemed like the perfect opportunity to force myself to do it. Little did I know how nerve-wracking of a task it would be.

I went down to the Village twice in hopes of asking strangers for their photos. As I went on rainy days, people were rushing to get to dry places. This made it hard to stop people for photos.

I was forced to rush things as I’d fallen behind on my assignments. I went to Central Park this time. It was packed since it’s a Saturday. It was also hard to single out strangers as most of them were in groups.

Photography

I’ve been wanting to take a formal class on photography for years now. My high school didn’t have the resources or space to offer anything more than a studio art class, let alone a darkroom. So I waited for years hoping to take a course somewhere else when I’d have the time or money to do so.

LC-A OK

Lomo LC-A

Back when I was a ninth grader, I saved up enough money to get myself a Lomo LC-A and a few other things that came bundled with it. I took photos with the camera like crazy. My only problem was that I had a hard time saving money to develop my photos. In fact, I still have a handful of undeveloped rolls from years ago lying around.

After a while, I noticed that the camera was acting up. The front casing was loose and my attempts at fixing the problem weren’t that great. I decided to use masking tape to keep the camera from falling apart and colored it black.

Well, I finally got it repaired. I took it to a guy who goes by the name, Lomodoctor Fa. When I took my LC-A over to his place, he sat down with my friend and me at a small desk. It had a bunch of tools and such.

It took Fa very little time to figure out how to fix my LC-A. While he did work on the camera, he gave me some tips on taking care of it. He even switched up my bad screws and put some tape on the camera to protect it. Pretty cool guy.

I plan using my LC-A a lot more often now. If only I could get some film to use in it. I prefer Fuji Superia but they don’t have it at the Rite Aid or CVS near me. Both B&H and Adorama are closed till Friday. What do I do!?

Tanvir

Tanvir

Tanvir’s my 30-year-old nephew. How’s he so much older than me? His dad is 5 years older than my dad and I was born way after all of my cousins. That means I have a bunch of nieces and nephews who are older. Some of my nieces even have kids.

He actually stayed with us from March till June. Many funny things happened. Some I can write about and some I can’t. Why? Because they’re just that crazy!

Various Happenings

Me

So, Ramadan is over and we finally celebrated Eid a week ago. It was a fun day. I spent the day with Sudman and Rasidul. Nazmul also hung out with us for a while. At night, we went to my cousin’s house. Since his house is right next to my friend Einul’s, we hung out there instead. (It’s not fun in my cousin’s house.)

I had gotten a haircut the day before because I was tired of my long hair. As I’d expected, I had angered many of my friends. What I didn’t expect was the amount of comments I got from people who’d never said anything about my hair before. I guess change is good. It’s still hard to decide between keeping it short for a while or growing it out again.

Of course, the photo above is one of the first photos of my new haircut. I got back a roll of photos today and put them up on Flickr for your viewing pleasure. I’m actually surprised at the amount of photos that came out nice this time around. Hopefully, I’ll be getting my LC-A fixed sooner and have more than just indoor shots to show off.

What have I been doing lately? Well, I’ve been caught up in schoolwork. Junior year’s very harsh. Definitely don’t wanna slack off this year. It will hurt you. Of course, I’ve also been playing Phantom Hourglass. Although I really like it, the length of the game is disappointing. It’s way shorter than I expected. I honestly think Nintendo could’ve spent more of their time working on the gameplay than the little enhancements. We barely get to use all the little features they spent so much time on. That’s just what I think.

Also, In Rainbows is just awesome. It’s definitely something to listen to. I’ve had the songs stuck in my head since I got the album. I even went as far as putting the whole thing on my phone.
